Beef Lo Mein

written by Emma Tang

Beef Lo Mein RecipeThanks for visiting Spice the Plate, today I am going to share the recipe of a mind-blowing Beef Lo Mein recipe. It’s full of flavor and WAY better than the Beef Lo Mein sold at the restaurants. Enough talking, let jump right into it.

Beef Lo Mein Raw IngredientsThe ingredients for this dish are very simple. Based on the name of the dish, I am sure you already figured out the two main ingredients, beef and Lo Mein noodles. Besides that, we only need garlic, onion, red and green pepper. That simple!

Beef Lo Mein-3There are three things we need to do before cooking starts. These preparation work will help ensure the flavor of the dish and make the cooking process later stress-free.

The three things are: 1) marinate the beef 2) cook the Lo Mein noodles following the directions on the package and 3) make the sauce for seasoning.

Beef Lo Mein-7Here is the order when to use each ingredient when cooking, it’s very simple:

  1. Cook the beef and set aside.
  2. Sauté the onion until browned and throw in the pepper and garlic, cook until they are soft.
  3. Add the beef back into the pan and cook for about 1 minute (this could make sure the beef is tender and not overcooked).
  4. Toss in the noodle and sauce, stir-fry under high heat for a couple of minutes and sprinkle with black pepper (It is very hard to cook noodle with a spatula without breaking the noodles, I recommend using a long chopsticks to stir fry the noodle. It could make your cooking much easier and more importantly, help the seasoning distribute evenly and well absorbed by the ingredients).

And now, it’s time to enjoy!

Beef Lo MeinBelow is how I made this dish step-by-step. The total time needed is about less than 30 minutes! How to make Beef Lo MeinI hope you enjoy making this super flavorful beef lo mein at home. If you like this recipe, please leave a rating and share it with your friends!

I just made this for dinner and it turned out amazing! The sauce was a little thick on the noodles but I think that’s just my personal preference. The marinade was so simple but incredibly delicious. You’ve given me quite a list of new recipes to try, thank you!!

Hi Tonya,
You can find Lo Mein Noodles in almost any Asian grocery stores. If is not available in where you live, you could also get it from Amazon. Here is the Amazon link to the noodle I used for this recipe, hope it’s helpful to you.

What do you think is the best type of beef to use? This looks delicious!

Most tender beef cuts work such as sirloin, ribeye, tenderloin, etc. Flank steak would be a good choice too, most restaurants use flank steak for stir-fried beef. Also, make sure you’re cutting across the grain.

How much is “one serving” of lo mein noodles in terms of weight before cooking? Also, how much is a “touch”?

Hi,

Thanks for your question. One serving of lo mein noodles is about 230g.

A touch means small amount such as a three-fingered pinch or the amount needed to give a flavor pleasing to you, similar to “salt to taste”.

Hope this is helpful 🙂
